2009-12-17 - JOHN BALL ZOO SOCIETY HOPING TO REACH FUNDRAISING GOAL BY DECEMBER 31, 2009
(Grand Rapids, MI) It takes $13 per day to feed one lion. It takes $12 a day to keep John Ball Zoo’s 30 frogs in crickets and Jodi, the diabetic chimpanzee, needs daily insulin shots at a cost of $100 per month. On November 13, 2009, John Ball Zoo Society launched COUNTING ON YOU, a public fundraising campaign to raise $100,000. The funds will be used for food and medical supplies for John Ball Zoo’s 2,000+ animals and to keep admission fees the same in 2010.
As of today, the Zoo Society has raised the lion’s share of the amount needed, $61,000. They hope to raise the remaining $39,000 by the end of the year, only two weeks away.
John Ball Zoo Society is encouraging the community to make a year end donation to help purchase animal food and medical supplies. Donations may be made on line at www.johnballzoosociety.org, by calling (616)336-3309, or by mailing their donation to: John Ball Zoo Society, 1300 W. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
John Ball Zoo is currently closed, but will re-open on March 1, 2010. The Zoo looks forward to an exciting 2010 season bringing in “Mighty Mike” a 14 foot, 700-lb. alligator, a troop of Guinea baboons, and colobus monkeys.
